The Ivation GDM20 dehumidifier is another reliable product made by Ivation. If you are looking for a dehumidifier to use in a small space, then this is worth your while. Working in a similar way to a vacuum cleaner, these types of dehumidifiers suck air in, remove the moisture from it and then blow it back out again. The moisture collects in a small tank which can be removed, emptied and then replaced.

The Basics

If, like me, you have ever had to struggle with mold build up on the ceiling in a bathroom, you will understand the desperate need for a dehumidifier. A couple of weeks ago, I had our annual apartment check-up conducted by a tightly-wound landlady. Despite following orders of showering with the window open, she was still horrified to find a substantial buildup of mold on the ceiling. Going through my options, I contemplated using a ladder every few weeks and scrubbing the mold off. But this option was not feasible. After searching the Internet, I decided to give the Ivation GDM20 Thermo-Electric Dehumidifier a try.

With a shower about the size of a linen cupboard, the GDM20 proved to be the perfect solution to my problem. Its compact size makes it an easy fit in small spaces and also very easy be moved from room to room. I also ended up using this appliance in my cupboards which were also affected by mold build up and quite a strong musty smell.

The dehumidifier also worked very well in the winter when we were not able to hang our clothing up outside to dry. Often clothes such as jerseys or towels can take up to two days to dry but I found that they dried substantially quicker when using the GDM20.

The Ivation GDM20 can reduce the humidity in a room of up to 1,100 cubic feet. Coming with a 9v DC power adapter, this appliance is also extremely energy efficient. Due to the Peltier technology, the Ivation Dehumidifier runs very quietly – quieter than some of the other appliances in the house.

The water collected during the process of dehumidifying is deposited into a small water tank. The water tank can collect up to 16-oz of water which means that it will have to be emptied out every two or so days. There is also a light feature which indicates when the tank is full and the dehumidifier will automatically shut-off so you don’t have to worry about water spillage.

Cleaning the dehumidifier proved to be an easy task as the tank is situated in the front of the dehumidifier and is very easy to remove and clean. It also has a washable air filter located at the top of the dehumidifier.

The Verdict

If you are looking for a small dehumidifier that can decrease the moisture build up in your home without running up the electricity bill, then the Ivation GDM20 Thermo-Electric Dehumidifier is a good option to check out. Keep in mind the fact that the Ivation line swaps reliability for affordability in a few of their models. This model, in particular, might not last very long with fairly regular use.
