The Ivation IVADM10 Powerful Small-Size Thermo-Electric Dehumidifier is one of the smallest in its class and can be classified as a light-duty dehumidifier. If you are looking for a dehumidifier to use in a relatively small space that is inexpensive and does not use up a large amount of electricity, then this dehumidifier could be the appliance you’ve been looking for.

The Basics

Once you receive your dehumidifier there is no need to set it up as it is ready to use and starts working immediately. Depending on your location and the time of the year, humidity levels can cause mold and mildew to sprout from unexpected places. Living in a city where the winter months are notoriously wet and humid can make it very difficult to get rid of  mold build up without needing a dehumidifier.

I found mildew and mold growth in two areas of my home – my bathroom and closet. In my frustration, I decided to try the Ivation Thermo-Electric Dehumidifier and I was pleasantly surprised. As the name suggests, the Ivation dehumidifier makes use of a thermoelectric effect that converts electricity into a temperature difference across a Peltier module. It is this created temperature difference that changes the humidity level.

One of the biggest advantages of using this type of technology is that the dehumidifier noise output is considerably lower than other dehumidifiers. I used this dehumidifier in my closet and in the bathroom after showering and if it hadn’t sapped the moisture out of the air, I would have barely known it was on.

However, this dehumidifier removes moisture at a slower rate than the larger dehumidifiers. Having said that, it did work perfectly well in my bathroom and closet. I did try it in a larger space but it did not perform as well. This was to be expected, of course. The IVADM10 is designed to dehumidify spaces of around 1,100 square feet. It is also extremely lightweight which made transporting it from the closet to the shower a very easy task. It’s small and compact size also made it easy to place throughout my home without being noticed.

The dehumidifier is comprised of two heat sinks, a fan and a Peltier module all made from durable material which ensures that this humidifier can be used for a number of years. It has a small water collection tank which fills up pretty quickly as it can only take up to 17 ounces of water. Another benefit of this tiny dehumidifier is that is has an automatic full capacity LED light which switches on when the dehumidifier has reached maximum capacity.

The IVADM10 will also stop running when the water tank is full so you don’t have to worry about the water tank overflowing or using unnecessary electricity. It is also well priced – only costing around $40 compared to others in the same class costing around $50.

The Verdict

If you are on the lookout for a light-duty dehumidifier to use in small places around the house, that is also not too expensive and easy to move around, then this is a decent choice. However, this particular option is known to have a short lifespan in relation to other machines built for the same purpose and could end up malfunctioning after a month or two, depending on the type of use it receives.
