Researching reviews online can be a tiresome exercise. I went through many, many reviews searching for the right humidifier for my home and finally settled on the Air O Swiss 7147 Ultrasonic Humidifier. I went with it because most people said it was extremely quiet, and I thought it was slightly more attractive than other humidifiers I saw, which tend to be cumbersome, white and kind of ugly.
This is an ultrasonic humidifier, which means that it works using a tiny plate inside the unit which flickers at an ultrasonic speed. This plate goes so fast that it splits the water particles up into vapor, and then this vapor is spread around the room as a fine mist. The effect of this is to raise the levels of humidity in your home and bring them to a healthy level. If you don’t do this, you might find the dry air leads you to feel unwell, or your skin to be dry. Having a humidifier can help reduce nosebleeds, increase the life expectancy of your furniture, and even save you money on bills in winter since humid air feels warmer.
The 7147 is advertised as being “whisper quiet”, and there is no doubting that this is a quiet humidifier. Sure, there is a gentle hum and the occasional bubbling sound, but it is pretty much as quiet as you would expect.
It comes with a useful automatic setting that means the device will decide upon the target level of humidity needed in the room and adjust the output level accordingly. The humidifier also comes with both warm mist and cold mist settings. I personally opt for the warm mist settings, but if you have children you may wish to opt for the cold mist option as it is safer.
The diffuser in the humidifier can be effective in a room of up to 600 square feet. There is a timer that can be set in advance for 1 to 8 hours old to run continuously, this is useful for when you want the home to be ready for when you return from work, or while you sleep.
As previously mentioned, the 7147 is a very attractive model. This makes it very appealing since most humidifiers are actually on show in a room. This humidifier, for example, is designed to be three feet away from the ground and away from any heating vents (so the mist is not interrupted or diffused unevenly). If you spend a great deal of time on making sure your room looks great, it is a shame if your humidifier does not quite live up to the rest of the room. This is not the case here. It’s a sleek, black, modern design that will look great in any room.
The main drawback of this humidifier is the cost. Not only is the initial outlay a little more than you would pay elsewhere, it also costs money to replace parts every year or so.
If you are looking for a quiet model and don’t mind spending a little extra, this could be the humidifier for you. The best part of it is how quietly it runs and how great it will look in your home.
